Why you should replace your air filter this winter

We encourage routine maintenance on your heating and cooling system constantly, but this doesn’t only mean annual tune-ups – it also means looking at your air filters. It’s a quick way to help keep your system working smoothly and increase your indoor air quality, and you can easily do it on your own! This is the best time to check your filter, as the cold season comes to a conclusion and the warmer weather is on the horizon. There are many benefits to switching out your air filter for a replacement, such as:

Lengthening the life and efficiency of your system
A definite way to instigate a system breakdown is a dirty air filter. Additional dirt that gathers on your filter can force your whole system to run harder than it should to keep your home cool. Not only will it impact the performance of your system, but it can impact your energy costs and end with an overheated system.

Increasing indoor air quality
The reason for an air filter is that it grabs contaminants through your air system before it reaches your house. As the filter gets older, the less efficient it is in catching things like dust and mold that can hurt the health and comfort of your home, particularly if someone in your house suffers from allergies or asthma. With warmer temps coming up, pollen and mold are especially prone to be hanging around and you certainly don’t like the idea of it moving in your house. A quality, clean air filter will help your family breathe easy and remain healthy throughout allergy season.

Inspect your system or chat with your local HVAC expert for guidance on how frequently you should be changing your filter. For most filters through Air Alliance Team, we suggest an annual change with the highest MERV filter available. Not sure if it’s the ideal time to replace your air filter?
